Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Rev’d Peter spoke about his ‘Pete’s Panic.’ How many of us have had situations where we say or do things when we are anxious. I must admit when anxious when public speaking, my speech becomes faster, I want the event to be over as quickly as possible. Over the years I have tried to slow down the rate in which I talk publicly. I now need to pencil in the words, ‘slow down when talking.’ School finished mid-July, and some do not stop to think about school till at least after the first week; I am one of those people. I even went in in the following Monday to collect a box file that I had forgotten. It was strange going round the school with no hustle and bustle of the staff or students; seeing the building preparation work for the next term being started. Jesus often took himself off to pray alone away from his followers and the crowds - Matthew 14.23: ‘And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone.’ Perhaps a time for reflection, prayer and possibly rest. Last week I was on holiday, and we went to see various towns, houses, parks, and churches. A break from the hustle and bustle of our normal lives. It was a great chance to recharge the batteries, to reflect and see things in a different light. You do not need to have a week. Perhaps in our daily lives we need just that 10 to 20mins to reflect, pray and recharge.
