Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We will be listening to God throughout this season of Advent. We will do so by studying the Bible together on Mondays at 2.00pm in St. Augustine’s Choir Vestry. The study materials are from ‘Waiting for the Light: A Study for Advent’ by William Delia. In a section of the first week’s study, he writes in page 12; The season of Advent is all about God’s surprise appearance about 2,000 years ago in a stable in Bethlehem, and another that is still to come at a time known only to God. It is not for us to know, and there is nothing we can do to change it. No way for us to hurry it along or to put it off. So, we wait. But it is not passive waiting. It is active anticipation. We wait - watching, listening, and hoping. As we pray, and wait in anticipation, let us encourage one another to join in shared reflection and learning, so that together we can capture both the longing and the hope of the coming Messiah. Almighty God, as your kingdom dawns, turn us from the darkness of sin to the light of holiness, that we may be ready to meet you in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
