Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ
Christian stewardship recognises that everything we have belongs to God and that we are called to care for all that God has given to us. As a parish we have been doing this in different ways and continue to find new ways of fulfilling the obligation. A member of the Holy Trinity Church has recently suggested an idea of making homes for Swifts, the birds who breed across the UK during the summer months. This project will involve making swifts nest boxes which will then be placed in appropriate places on the church building. It is hoped that the nests will make a significant contribution to halt the decline of the birds which are now classified as ‘endangered’ but also demonstrate our commitment as disciples of Christ to care for what God has entrusted to us. We will be exploring this project through various channels and, if feasible, we will give it a trial with the knowledge that it will take a few months or years before Swifts can make use of them. We will invite volunteers who have interest in bird conservation with specific reference to Swifts, to help oversee the project. “Gracious God, we understand that you call us to be the stewards of your abundance, the caretakers of all you have entrusted to us. Help us always to use your gifts wisely and teach us to share them generously.”
