Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
As we look forward to the beginning of Advent, I would like us to pause and reflect on the many questions we came across throughout the year, and the impact of our responses. The questions might have triggered different reactions but, as we will be listening to the scriptures in our stillness, we may be able to hear the voice of Jesus’ response to the many questions that were thrown at Him. Throughout his ministry, He faced many questions, some of which were designed to take Him away from the purpose for His mission, but He remained steadfast. For example, in His interaction with Pilate (Matthew 27:11, Mark 15:2 and Luke 23:3), Pilate asked Him, "Are you the King of the Jews?" to which Jesus replies, "You have said so". Jesus then falls completely silent, even in the face of subsequent accusations against Him brought by others, including bystanders. On this ‘Christ the King’ Sunday, we read from John 18:37 when Pilate asked Him, “So you are a king?” He answered, “You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who belongs to the truth listens to my voice.” In the stillness of our silence in this season of Advent, let us hear Jesus’ response to the questions thrown at us.
